Seriously, especially if the race breaths a different atmosphere, you can use that world to colonize their native planet type basically granting you 2x the number of fully habitable planets to choose from. (Think thats a cheap way to play?, don't worry, soon enough the enemy will plaster their ships with point defence rendering your missiles useless. Capital ship missiles are great for kiting enemies early game. Magical races have a primitive level of technology, but can wield powerful magics to travel the cosmos. Organic races use living, sentient starships, organic planetary structures, and so on, relying on forced evolution to develop further capabilities. Carrier battlegroups are the way to go against the ai. Physical races are normal technological races, similar to stock Space Empires IV. Slow firing capital ship guns are useless against even a half dozen fighters.
